The final 1,270 approved applicants will be notified and receive access to their grant award this week.

The program was created last year by Governor Brad Little and the Idaho Legislature and funded with $50 million in federal coronavirus relief dollars. Over 49,000 Idaho students benefited from Empowering Parents grants.

Families can use the grants to purchase computer hardware, educational software, internet connectivity, instructional materials, tutoring services, educational services, and physical, occupational and speech therapies.

Earlier this year, the Governor and the Legislature approved $30 million in ongoing funding for the Empowering Parents Program. The application window for the next round of grants will open this fall.

The program provides grants to eligible families of students attending Idaho public schools, private schools, or who are homeschooled.

Empowering Parents program totals:

  • Total number of applications received: 38,269 (75,813 students)
  • The number of applications [parents] awarded: 25,732
  • The number of grants issued to students: 49,494
  • Total funds awarded: $49,494,000
