LEWISTON – Yesterday, the Lewiston Police Department received a call from the Veterans Home (821 21st Ave, Lewiston). Responding Officers were informed that Sandra L McCarty (54 yoa, Las Vegas, NV) was found straddling her father pushing down on his mouth. A CNA noticed the victim’s call light was activated and went to check on him. When the CNA opened the door, she observed Ms. McCarty’s hands over the victim’s nose and mouth. The CNA yelled at Ms. McCarty to get off of the victim, which she did. Ms. McCarty was stopped by staff members and asked to write a statement about the incident, which she allegedly complied. Once she learned that law enforcement was on their way, she left the building and drove away. LPD Officers were able to find Ms. McCarty and safely take her into custody for Attempted Murder in the First Degree. She is currently housed in the Nez Perce County Detention Center.
In court today, the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office filed one felony count of Attempted Murder in the First Degree against Sandra McCarty. The Prosecutor’s Office requested a $1 Million bond because Ms. McCarty is an out-of-state resident who lives in Las Vegas and fled the scene of the crime. It was also requested because of the significant injuries to the victim, nature of the charge, and the concern for public safety. Nez Perce County Magistrate Judge Karin Seubert ordered a $500,000 bond.
