PORTLAND, Ore. – The Warriors closed out the regular season on Saturday with competition at both the Linfield Twilight and Portland Twilight. LC State Track and Field now turns its attention to the Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, May 12-13 in La Grande.
MEN – LINFIELD TWILIGHT
After running the best 800m of his career, Griffen Parsells ran the anchor leg of the LC State record-setting 4x800m relay that earned a provisional mark for nationals. The team of Kobe Wessels, Carter Gordon, Conner May, and Parsells clocked a time of 7:45.17 to win the event at the Linfield Twilight.
The 4x100m relay quartet of Jedidiah Barnaby, London Kirk, Jordan Castillo, and Justin Krabbenhoft also earned a relay win at Linfield with a time of 42.24. Barnaby, Castillo, Brycen Brown, and Trenton Johnson teamed up for a win in the 4x100m relay (3:26.17).
Senior Christian Bothwell ran a PR in the 400m hurdles with the fifth-fastest time in LC State history to place third in the field (57.18).
Brycen Kempton ran a personal best in the 1,500m (4:05.93) to lead a trio of Warriors in the event. Kempton was fourth, Clay Shumaker was ninth (4:11.59) and Connor Turpin was 16th (4:15.30).
Caleb Moore was seventh in the 110m hurdles (16.58). He also placed 20th in the javelin (37.21m) and Bothwell was 13th (43.77m). Braden Wuthrich finished 10th in the high jump (1.78m) and Johnson was 20th in the long jump (6.04m).
Tristan Wood placed 14th in the 800m (2:03.54). Freshman Tanner Sibert was 44th in the 100m (12.23) and 34th in the 200m (24.93). Connor Alexander led LC in the 5,000m in fourth place (16:12.21) and Luke Sellmann was 15th (17:30.51).
Jon Wattles led a group of Warriors in the discus with an eighth-place finish (38.85m). Sam Weller was 15th (34.14m), Jaycob Atencio was 18th (32.57m), Caleb Moore was 22nd (31.32m) and Tanner Beltz-Childs was 24th (28.96m). Jack Hardee led the group in the hammer throw in 10th (40.04m), Wattles was 11th (39.82m) and Weller was 17th (31.03m). Weller earned a second-place finish in the shot put (13.87m) and Hardee was 17th (10.66m).
Senior Nik Bertling placed third in the pole vault (4.25m) while Christian Bothwell and Caleb Moore tied for eighth at 3.95m.
WOMEN – LINFIELD TWILIGHT
Senior Ashley Britt bettered her automatic-qualifying time for outdoor nationals in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:02.88. She finished second overall, and freshman Dalli Elison ran a career-best time of 1:07.78 to finish fifth. Keelyn Pilcher was ninth (1:11.97).
Orofino native Sydnie Zywina bested her own school record in the triple jump with a leap of 11.42m to finish second at the meet.
The women’s 4x100m relay team of Emily Collins, Anika Grogan, Sara Hathaway and Madigan Kelly ran the fifth-fastest time in program history (48.72) to finish second. Kelly, along with fellow Lewiston native Jennah Carpenter, competed in the 100m hurdles where Kelly finished first (14.56) and Carpenter placed eighth (15.78.)
The relay team of Collins, Grogan, Hathaway and Geraldin Correa ran a time of 3:57.29 in the 4x100m relay to win the event.
Grace Dixon ran a PR in the 3,000m steeplechase and finished second with a time of 12:10.75.
In throwing events, Grace Osborne threw to a personal-best distance of 36.65m in the hammer throw to place 14th. Cassidy Henderson was 21st (33.34m). Osborne was eighth in the discus (35.35m) and Henderson was 19th (29.29m). Osborne placed 17th in the shot put (9.20m).
Emberlynn Mack hit a personal-best height in the pole vault to tie with teammate Cynthia Smith for 10th (3.15m). Desiree Winslow was 15th (2.85m). Mack was the top LC finisher in the 100m dash with a time of 14.10 to take 21st. Alexa Horsley was 26th (14.38).
In her second time competing in the high jump this weekend, Carpenter won the event with a mark of 1.63m. Emma Harless cleared a personal-best height of 1.58m to tie for second.
Kea Stieglitz finished third in the javelin with a mark of 38.02m.
Abigail Gorton was the top LC finisher in the 5,000m in fifth with a time of 20:15.94. Madison Howe was 10th (21:26.33) and HaileyAnn John was 13th (21:57.57).
PORTLAND TWILIGHT
Four Warriors competed at the Portland Twilight to finish off the regular season.
Brooklyn Shell ran a personal-best time in the 1,500m. The junior finished 20th with a time of 4:43.80, and freshman Grace Tiegs was 33rd (5:01.83).
Ike Hopper ran PR in the 200m (23.15) to finish second, and Chloe Overberg placed ninth in her heat of the 5,000m with a time of 18:10.71.
