Lewiston, ID- On June 23rd, 2023, at approximately 9:24am, Lewiston Police Officers responded to a call of an adult male subject who was possibly attacked with a hammer near the area of 5th Street and Levee Bypass Road. Upon arrival, officers found a male who was bleeding from his head and Lewiston Medics were called to the scene.
The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. A person of
interest was contacted near 240 New Sixth Street on an unrelated incident where it had been reported that a subject had unlawfully entered an apartment and damaged the front door.
Officers determined this was the subject that was involved in the incident on Levee Bypass. Investigators responded to the scene of the incident where the subject had been struck with a hammer and interviewed witnesses and collected evidence. Based on their investigation, 37 year old Edward R. Hochrein Jr. was arrested and taken to the Nez Perce County Jail and charged with Attempted Murder and
Burglary (both felonies) along with the misdemeanor charges of unlawful entry and malicious injury to property.
The victim, 39 year old Ryan Williams, remains at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with serious injuries to his skull. Anyone with further information about these incidents are asked to call the Lewiston Police Department and speak to Detective Joe Stormes at 208-746-0171.
