(KAMIAH, Idaho) — As summer heats up, road and timber construction projects are also accelerating. For visitors to the North Fork Ranger District of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, that means there are several projects that will begin soon or are underway that you should know about to plan your visit.
North Fork District Ranger, Andrew Skowlund explained: “We know how much people enjoy the limitless recreational opportunities on the North Fork and these projects will improve travel times in the future. We designed these projects to make sure recreators could still access the North Fork as projects are underway.”
In late July or Early August, contractors will begin work on reconstruction of NFSR (National Forest Service Road) 250 (Pierce Superior) on the North Fork of the Clearwater River from the Bungalow Ranger Station site to Kelly Forks Work Center. Road work is anticipated to last until late October and during the period that work occurs, visitors should anticipate delays of up to 3 hours with open periods lasting for 30 minutes.
NFSR 250 is heavily used by recreationists who come for fishing, hunting, hiking, and other outdoor recreation. The road work will improve drivability and drainage and will consist of 18 miles of reconstruction. During the project, the road will be open from 6 PM until 7 AM, on holidays and on weekends.
