PULLMAN, WA – Pullman Police arrested a 30-year-old man Thursday morning in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred near College Hill late last year. Officers took Jorge Rigo Amezcua into custody at his home on Markley Drive without incident. He is accused of second-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Darcy Spracklin.

The investigation began on December 26, 2024, when Pullman Police and the Pullman Fire Department responded to a medical call at an apartment near Greek Row. Spracklin’s roommate reportedly found him unresponsive, and he was transported to Pullman Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

During the investigation, detectives identified Amezcua as a suspect through surveillance footage showing a man matching his description riding a bicycle near the scene around the time of the shooting. Witnesses told police that Amezcua and Spracklin were acquaintances, and cell phone records reportedly placed Amezcua in the area at the time of the incident.

Amezcua was initially arrested on a methamphetamine possession charge. According to police, he allegedly admitted to firing several rounds at Spracklin inside an abandoned fraternity house across the street from Spracklin’s apartment. Amezcua reportedly claimed he believed he missed, as Spracklin was able to walk back to his home. Police say blood evidence was found inside the empty fraternity house, and Amezcua stated that a friend disposed of his .22 caliber pistol the following day.

Whitman County Prosecutor Denis Tracy presented the case during Amezcua’s initial court appearance. Judge Roger Sandberg set Amezcua’s bond at one million dollars.

Amezcua faces charges of second-degree murder and methamphetamine possession. His arraignment is scheduled for next week. The investigation remains ongoing, with the Pullman Police Department continuing to collect evidence with assistance from the Whitman County Regional SWAT Team and the Quad Cities Drug Task Force.
