LAS VEGAS, NV – No. 25 LC State Women’s Golf opened play at The Trailblazer, hosted by Oklahoma City University, at TP Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nev., on Monday. After one round of play, the Warriors sit in seventh place and Isabella Barquet is in 12th individually.
“The score may not show it, but there was a lot of promising things that happened in our round today,” coach Zach Anderson said. “The course is playing tough, as you can tell by the multiple nationally ranked teams shooting their highest individual rounds of the year. A course that is featured on the PGA Tour every year is definitely a privilege to play. It was a great opportunity to knock the rust off and get back on grass. The weather not being kind to us to start the semester was a challenge, but I spoke with the women about expectation management and how that plays a big part during your round. We didn’t have our best today, but I am excited to see how we develop not just tomorrow but throughout the semester.”
LC State is in seventh place as a team at 59-over. The Warriors are five strokes back of sixth place and eight back of fifth.
Barquet shot a 10-over, 82 for the best round by an LC State player. Freshman Giulia Belfontali is in 19th place after a 13-over, 85 while Chase Caruso, Dallis Shockey and Jane Barry are all tied for 38th after each shooting a 90.
Natalia Gomez, playing as an individual, is in 30th place after a round of 16-over, 88.
