OLYMPIA, WA – Washington state has joined a lawsuit challenging the termination of federal employees by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and other federal agencies. The lawsuit alleges that the firings were unlawful and unjustly impacted employees providing essential services.
Filed in San Francisco, the case claims that the dismissals, which began under former President Donald Trump’s administration, were carried out arbitrarily, affecting thousands of workers. According to the lawsuit, many of the terminated employees had strong performance records and long tenures in federal service. Some had recently been promoted to supervisory or management positions before being removed.
The lawsuit also highlights the impact of the firings on federally managed lands, noting that over 12 million acres have been affected by the resulting instability in federal agencies.
Washington state joins other plaintiffs in seeking accountability for what they describe as damaging employment actions that have disrupted government services and affected numerous workers.
