Hiker Fatally Injured by Falling Rock on Railroad Trail Near Reubens, Idaho

RUBENS, ID- On March 8th, at approximately 10:40 AM, Nez Perce County Deputies were dispatched to assist an injured hiker on the railroad trail between Highway 95 and Reubens, Idaho. Deputies from Nez Perce and Lewis Clark counties, along with Lewiston medics and LifeFlight, responded to the area.

It was reported that a hiker had been struck in the head by a falling rock approximately four miles east of Highway 95, inside one of the railroad tunnels. Another hiker in the group provided aid until deputies and LifeFlight arrived.

Unfortunately, the 40-year-old female hiker succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office extends its gratitude to all who responded and offers its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends.
