Belfontali Leads LCSC Women to Sweep of Team and Individual Titles at Warrior Spring Classic

LEWISTON, ID – The Warrior women earned their first victory of the season on Tuesday as LC State defended its home course at The Warrior Spring Classic. Freshman Giulia Belfontali brought home her first collegiate win with a three-stroke victory over ranked opponents.

“The women were in a battle down the stretch but pulled it off to capture their first team title of the season,” coach Zach Anderson said. “A huge win for Giulia. She really found her footing this tournament and I’m proud of the way she composed herself down the stretch in high pressure situations. We’ve been working hard on her mindset on the course, and we saw improvements this week. Very happy to see her get her first collegiate win. Proud of all the women for battling and not letting the hardware go home with anyone else.”

The Warrior women edged College of Idaho by four strokes and did just enough to hold off a strong round of 307 by the Yotes. LC State shot 315 as a team to follow Monday’s 311 for a 626 total score.

Belfontali edged University of Victoria’s (B.C.) top golfer in top-40 ranked Cindy Koira. The freshman followed up her even-par, 72 on Monday with a round of 76 on Tuesday that featured three straight birdies.

Sophomore Isabella Barquet also earned all-tournament honors with her fourth-place finish. She matched Belfontali’s round with a 76 with four birdies to shave two strokes off her first round.

Dallis Shockey and Natalia Gomez finished tied for 12th overall. Shockey carded a round of 82 while Gomez shot an 81 to each finish 19-over for the tournament.

Freshman Jane Barry finished her first home tournament with a 15th-place finish. She finished the week with a round of 84.

Chase Caruso tied for seventh as an individual with a strong round of 77. Myah Parsons, also as an individual, placed 32nd in her first action of the season.

“Thank you to Lewiston Golf and CC staff for their help to facilitate this tournament,” Anderson added. “And huge thanks to all the LC State staff for their help to make this possible. Thanks to my assistants Kurt and Gordy for their work as well. It takes a village to run these events, and I’m blessed with the one I have.”
