LCSC Men Dominate Warrior Spring Classic

LEWISTON, ID – LC State Men’s Golf absolutely dominated at The Warrior Spring Classic to win the home tournament by nearly 40 strokes on Tuesday. The Warriors shot 17-under as a team behind Alex Navarro’s 12-under total to earn the senior his first individual win as a Warrior.

The LC State A team had eight under-par rounds to earn the team title, while the B team also had a strong tournament and finished in third place ahead of three other NAIA teams in the field. The A team finished 17-under, 847 while the B team was 27-over 891.

The win is the second tournament victory in a row for the LC State men.

“The men left no doubt,” coach Zach Anderson said. “They commanded the tournament from very early on and for that I am happy with the outcome. All nine guys contributed to team scoring. There were improvements in this tournament in their games, mindsets, and of course scores. They got the job done with the A team winning and the B team finishing third.”

Navarro sat in second after the first two rounds and saved his best round for last on Tuesday. The senior carded a career-low 67 to finish 12-under overall with rounds of 68-69-67.

Freshman Lucas Ortega also impressed with his second-place finish. Ortega carded a 65 on Monday before a 71 in the second round. He finished his first home tournament with a round of 70 to finish 10-under, 206 for the tournament.

Navarro and Ortega were the only golfers to shoot under par in every round.

“Alex finally got his win that he has been so close to for the past year and a half,” Anderson said. “He told me back in August he was going to win the home tournament, and he got it done. Super proud of him and his hard work. Lucas came up a bit short, but he made huge strides this week and I have no doubt those will continue going forward. Proud of each of these guys for the way they competed this week.”

Senior Oscar Behle was 10th overall after a 76 on Tuesday to go with his even-par, 72s on Monday. Sophomore Luke West shot under par on Tuesday with a 71 to follow his 81 and 70 on Monday. Owen Pearson finished tied for 21st.
