Warrior Women’s Basketball Earns Four CSC Academic All-District Honors

GREENWOOD, IN – Four LC State Women’s Basketball players earned the distinction of College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District, announced on Tuesday. Camden Barger and Sitara Byrd each earned the honor for the second time while Ellie Sander and Tatum Brager brought home their first accolade.

The award recognizes student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and in the field of play. To be eligible, student-athletes must start in 66% of games or appear in 90%, must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and be at least a sophomore in standing. A maximum of four players are selected per program for the competitive award.

“I am extremely proud of these four Warriors,” coach Caelyn Orlandi said. “Their success on the court is easy to see, but what they do off the court takes just as much time and dedication. All four embody student-athlete to the fullest and are great examples of the student-athlete that we strive to recruit.”

Barger holds a 3.91 grade-point average as a nursing major. The redshirt sophomore from Grangeville appeared in 33 games with five starts and dealt 37 assists and had 15 steals. She hit 12 3-pointers at a 40% clip and shot 50% from the field.

Brager is an elementary education major with a 3.72 GPA. The sophomore from Stanwood, Wash., led LC State in 3-pointers made this season with 48 and averaged 6.5 points per game. Brager totaled 24 assists and 13 steals during the season. She appeared in 32 games with two starts.

Byrd, an elementary education major with a minor in special education, holds a 3.99 grade-point average as a junior. The Spokane, Wash., native was voted First-Team All-Cascade Conference as a key piece of both the offense and defense for LC State. She was fourth in the CCC in 3-point percentage (.405) and averaged 10.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Byrd was second on the team in steals (81) and shot .479 from the field which ranked in the top 10 of the conference. Her 45 3-pointers made this season were second on the team. She started all 33 games for the Warriors.

Sander will graduate this spring with a degree in Exercise Science and enters her final semester with a 3.63 GPA. The Warriors’ leading scorer capped her career with her third All-CCC honor and second first-team nod. The Spokane, Wash., native led the conference in steals this season with 99 and was seventh in scoring with her team-leading 13.6 points per game. The senior was fourth in the conference in field goal percentage at .531. As a guard, Sander was second on the team in blocks with 25 and third in assists with 83. She shot .806 (58-for-72) from the free throw line. Sander scored a career-high 36 points against SOU during the regular season which set the record in Southern Oregon’s facility. She started all 33 games for LC State.
