Selena’s Killer Could Walk Free: Yolanda Saldívar Up for Parole March 30

HOUSTON, TX – Yolanda Saldívar, the woman convicted of murdering Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, will be eligible for parole in 2025—30 years after the crime that shocked fans around the world.

Saldívar, now 64, has been serving a life sentence since her 1995 conviction for shooting the 23-year-old singer at a Corpus Christi motel. At the time of the murder, Saldívar was not only the president of Selena’s fan club but also managed her clothing boutiques.

The high-profile trial, moved to Houston due to massive public interest, ended with the harshest penalty allowed under Texas law at the time: life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

Saldívar is currently incarcerated at the Patrick O’Daniel Unit in Gatesville, Texas. According to state prison records, she becomes eligible for parole on March 30, 2025.

The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles will weigh her prison behavior and the severity of her crime before making a decision. The prospect of her release has reignited public debate as Selena’s legacy continues to resonate with fans decades after her death.

Known as the “Queen of Tejano Music,” Selena’s influence remains powerful, with her music, fashion, and story still celebrated around the world.
