False Shooting Report in Moses Lake Determined to Be Swatting Incident

MOSES LAKE, WA – Early Sunday morning, a report of a shooting at a home in the Larson community was determined to be a malicious hoax known as “swatting.”

At approximately 12:15 a.m., a 911 caller claimed a shooting had occurred at a residence in the 1000 block of Lowry Drive. Moses Lake Police and Grant County Sheriff’s deputies quickly responded, surrounding the home and conducting a thorough search. No signs of a crime were found at the residence or the neighboring property.

During the investigation, a 16-year-old inside the home informed deputies that he had been playing an online game when another player threatened to call the police. Authorities noted that the caller’s responses during the 911 call were inconsistent and raised suspicion.

Based on the evidence and circumstances, deputies suspect the incident was a case of swatting—a dangerous prank involving false reports to emergency services to provoke a heavy police response.

The case is under investigation with cooperation from the Moses Lake Police Department and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
