BOISE, ID – The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) will participate in the national “Two Lights for Tomorrow” event on April 18 and 19, kicking off celebrations leading up to the 250th birthday of the United States. The initiative commemorates Paul Revere’s historic ride on the night of April 18–19, 1775, symbolizing the nation’s history and unity.
On Friday, April 18, numerous Idaho state parks will display symbolic lanterns honoring the state’s and nation’s rich history, outdoor heritage, and collective future.
Saturday, April 19, will mark a statewide “Service Day,” offering volunteer opportunities to help preserve and enhance Idaho’s state parks. While several volunteer efforts are already at full capacity, the public is encouraged to attend celebrations such as the color retirement ceremony by a local 4-H club at Thousand Springs State Park.
Participating parks include Lucky Peak, Lake Cascade, Eagle Island, and Ponderosa in the Southwest region; Harriman, Lake Walcott, and Massacre Rocks in the Southeast region; and Heyburn and Farragut in the North region. Activities will range from educational readings and displays to practical volunteer efforts like cleanups and maintenance.
The IDPR notes that approximately 600 volunteers contribute annually across various roles in state parks, providing essential support for operations, educational programs, and conservation efforts.
