CLARKSTON – At about 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Asotin County Fire District #1 was dispatched to a possible house fire in Clarkston Heights after it was struck by lightning.
According to a post on Asotin County Fire District #1’s Facebook page, the homeowner reported a lightning strike and a strong smell of smoke in the home.
When crews arrived they found that lightning had hit a tree in the front yard. The strike caused a power surge in the home, which damaged many small appliances.
Fire crews shut the power off and used a thermal imaging camera to check the home for any issues.
The fire chief contacted Clearwater Power which provides power to the home and they opted not to respond to check out any possible issues of power to the home stating according to the meter all is working properly.
There were no reported injuries In this incident. Chief Hardin did say when lightning is hitting in your neighborhood, it’s not a bad idea to unplug items that do not have a surge protector.
