(Lewiston, ID) WinCo customers in Lewiston and Moscow may have noticed a new warning sign posted this weekend regarding the national egg shortage due to Avian Influenza. The sings read, “Due to the ongoing impact of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza on poultry populations, egg supplies have been affected, leading to higher costs.”
WinCo plans to monitor the ongoing threat to the poultry industry, and will adjust prices accordingly moving forward.
According to a report issued by USA Today, the average price for a dozen eggs in the U.S. has increased by $1.13 since the beginning of 2024. It has also been reported that nearly 100 million birds have died since the outbreak began in 2022.
Poultry prices moving forward should be expected to rise even further at the current rate of the outbreak.
