Barquet Earns Top-10 Finish, No. 20 Warrior Women Place Third in Iowa

September 18, 2024

(Lewiston, ID) – No. 20 LC State Women’s Golf wrapped up a successful week in Iowa with a third-place finish at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational at Willow Creek Golf Course on Tuesday. The Warrior women placed ahead of a pair of ranked teams behind a top-10 finish by sophomore Isabella Barquet. The strong weekend includes the single-round team scoring record, set in round two at 292.

The Warriors defeated No. 18 OUAZ (Ariz.) by 16 strokes to take third behind team champion No. 5 Texas Wesleyan and second-place finisher No. 11 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.).

Though weather made the third round more challenging, LC State rallied to close out the competitive tournament on a high note.

“Although the wind got us today, I am really proud of the way the women battled through the round,” Head Coach Zach Anderson said. “This tournament has national implications, and we had a great showing, especially after a rough first tournament out of the gates. This tournament really got us back on track and allowed these women to know that they can battle with the best of them when their game is on. Super excited to see where we can go from here.”

Barquet finished in a tie for eighth after a round of 78. She totaled seven bogies in the round with one birdie on the ninth hole to end the tournament with a 7-over, 223. Barquet has recorded a top-10 finish in both tournaments so far this season.

Dallis Shockey placed 15th in the field after a third-round score of 79. She used a pair of birdies on holes 15 and 18 to stay 1-over on the back nine but ran into trouble with the front nine holes. Shockey wrapped up her three rounds with an 11-over, 227.

The freshmen duo of Giulia Belfontali and Jane Barry tied for 20th with matching scores of 17-over, 233. The pair shot rounds of 76-74 on day one before firing off matching 83s on Tuesday.

Chase Caruso matched her score from Monday’s second round with another 79. The sophomore birdied holes 7, 8 and 9 to finish 29th.
