Bradley Tallies Career-High to Propel LC State Past Evergreen

Randy Isbelle | Sports Information Intern

LEWISTON – Jaedon Bradley set another career-high as the Lewis-Clark State Men’s Basketball team defeated Evergreen State 85-60 at the P1FCU Activity Center on Friday.

The win moved the Warriors back to .500 on the season at 4-4 as they improved to 2-0 in Cascade Conference play. The Geoducks dropped to 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.

“Proud of our guys’ effort on such short rest,” coach Austin Johnson said. “We had some really good stretches defensively and I thought we did a great job sharing the basketball.”

Bradley improved from his 19-point outing on Thursday by shooting 7-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to lead LC State with 21 points.

Anthony Peoples Jr. earned his first double-double as a Warrior with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Quentin Raynor hit five 3s to finish with 15 points. Alton Hamilton finished with 11 points, all in the second half, while Sam Stockton filled up the stat sheet with five points, three rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals.

“Bradley had another good all-around game,” Johnson said. “Alton and Anthony were really solid inside. It was also good to see Quentin shoot it to the level he is capable of.”

The Warriors shot 30-of-64 from the field (46.9%) and hit 10 from beyond the arc, going 10-of-28 (35.7%), as a team. LC State outrebounded Evergreen State 40-30 and scored 20 points off 17 turnovers.

Tyler Williford led the Geoducks with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Deondre Russ added 12 and Elijah McLaughlin finished with 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a Williford jumper, Evergreen State took an early 3-2 lead but it was the last time the Geoducks led in the game. Bradley connected from beyond the 3-point line just 16 seconds later and the Warriors did not look back.

Following the 3, Bradley added a pair of layups and Javon Jones connected from short range to push the LC State lead to six.

With 7:01 remaining in the first half, the margin was down to three before a flagrant foul was called on Lane Kennedy. After the timeout Bradley hit both free throws, Raynor hit a pair of 3-pointers, Stockton added a free throw and Peoples Jr. made a jumper to push the lead to 36-21 on the 14-2 run. Gorden Boykins connected with a triple of his own in the final seconds of the half to give the Warriors a 43-27 advantage.

The Geoducks started the second half strong. A Williford jumper concluded a 16-10 start to the half for Evergreen State that cut the LC State lead to 10 with 14:01 remaining. After a timeout, the Warriors rushed out to an 11-0 run and did not look back.

“This group has earned a couple days off,” Johnson said. “Proud of their resilience.”
