Brush/Structure Fire – 1312 12th Avenue

August 18, 2024 Lewiston City Fire Department

The Lewiston Fire Department responded a single engine to the listed address for a reported grass or yard fire. While enroute Lewiston Dispatch upgraded the response to a first alarm assignment due to a report that a shop, fence and other combustibles in the area were now on fire.

Engine 71 arrived on location in the alleyway behind the residence and began extinguishing the fire on the shop, fence and yard areas. Crews entered the shop to stop the fire in the attic area and prevent further fire extension. The fire was quickly extinguished and salvage and overhaul of the area began. Avista arrived on location and secured the power to the shop. The fire had burned onto the neighboring property and damaged a fence and vehicle.

The department responded with three structural engines, two ambulances and one chief officer, totaling 14 personnel.

The cause of the fire was a hot ember from a BBQ smoker that was in operation at the edge of the dry vegetation. The estimated damage to the structure and other contents in the area is $16,000.

There were no citizen or firefighter injuries to report.
