Campground Hosts and Other Volunteers Needed

December 5, 2024

2025 Camping Season is Coming – Volunteer Facebook Page Ready

(Lewiston, ID) – Volunteers are needed for most of the 30 state parks the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation manages across the state. The experience at the more than 2,500 campsites, yurts, cabins and group facilities would not be the same without the dedicated help of campground hosts, interpretive and maintenance hosts, as well as store, kiosk, and visitor services hosts. More than 240 volunteers are expected to contribute in 2025.

“Volunteers at our parks really make a difference for our visitors, especially as outdoor recreation continues to expand in Idaho,” said IDPR Volunteer Services Coordinator Trish Hendrickson. “Every park, every visitor is unique, and volunteers are there to host you to a remarkable #IdahoTime that you can’t find anywhere else.”

Volunteer opportunities range from individual spots to group assignments with short or long-term projects available in specialized programs. Campground hosts are some of the most popular positions. These hosts greet visitors and hand out information, replace restroom supplies, clean campsites, pick up litter, and inform park rangers about potential problems.

“In 2025 we want to bring our past, present and future volunteers together on Facebook to share experiences and benefits, answer questions, and more. It is all about excellent customer service.” Hendrickson said.

The state parks in need of volunteers include Farragut State Park, Lake Cascade State Park, and Thousand Springs State Park.
