CORVALLIS, Ore. – Lewis-Clark State Cross Country was named the Cascade Conference Under Armour Team of the Week, announced by the conference office on Sunday. The No. 13 women and No. 14 men excelled at the Northwest Clash in Cheney, Wash., to open the 2023 season.
The Warrior men placed fourth behind three NCAA Division I teams, while the women were fifth behind the three DI schools and the No. 5 program in DIII, Carleton.
The men were paced by Carter Gordon. He had the highest finish of any Warrior on the day in 19th (19:02.3) and bested his previous 6k-best time by seven seconds. Clay Shumaker, making his LC State Cross Country debut, was the next LC finisher in 35th (19:23.4) and senior Brycen Brown was 46th (19:39.7). Brycen Kempton placed 51st (19:46.5) and Connor Alexander was 57th (19:56.9) to round out the top five.
Brooklyn Shell ran a career-best 4k time of 14:57.3 to lead the LC women to a fifth-place finish at the meet. She placed 23rd overall to start her season in strong fashion. Chloe Overberg, running a cross country race for the Warriors for the first time, placed 36th (15:13.1) and Geraldin Correa was 39th (15:16.9). Grace Tiegs (58th, 15:51.4) and Grace Dixon (59th, 15:55.5) rounded out the top five for the Warriors.
