(Lewiston, ID) The Lewiston City Library will host a celebration and informative presentation Thursday evening, February 6 at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s event space to celebrate the work of Linda McMillan, muralist, and honor the Nez Perce Tribe Executive Committee thanking them for their support in making the mural project possible. Nez Perce language teacher, Harry Slickpoo Jr, will be presenting the Heart of the Monster creation story as part of the presentation.
The mural, painted by muralist Linda McMillan, can be found in the children’s library on the first floor and offers a QR code linking to the Nez Perce National Historical Park for more information about the history and culture of the nimíipuu. The mural tells the Nez Perce creation story, The Heart of the Monster, in which Coyote killed a large monster along the Clearwater River near Kamiah, Idaho, and scattered his parts across the region becoming the different northwest tribes.
All community members are welcome at this public celebration and to take in the permanent mural in the children’s library.
