(Pullman, WA) – On December 17, 2024, the City of Pullman was informed of allegations involving Police Chief Jake Opgenorth. These allegations are currently under investigation by the Washington State Patrol. As a standard procedural measure, Chief Opgenorth was placed on administrative leave that same day by the City Administrator at the direction of the Mayor of Pullman. To ensure continuity of leadership, Commander Aaron Breshears has been designated as Acting Chief of Police.
Mayor Francis Benjamin states, “The City is aware of the ongoing Washington State Patrol investigation, as well as the civil protection order petition filed against Chief Opgenorth. We are fully committed to cooperating with the investigation, and while we are dedicated to maintaining transparency, we must also respect the integrity of the investigative and judicial processes and cannot comment further at this point. Updates will be provided as appropriate.”
