CLARKSTON DECA HOSTS 22ND ANNUAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE FOR 4TH GRADERS: “EXPLORING CAREERS”

Clarkston, WA – Clarkston High School – On the morning of Friday, November 3, 2023, over two hundred 4th-grade students from the Clarkston School District, Holy Family Catholic School, and Cornerstone Christian School will be attending the 22nd Annual Career Development Conference. This event, hosted by Clarkston DECA, will take place at the Clarkston High School Auditorium and is open to the public. The conference is designed to teach the 4th-grade students about entrepreneurship, running a business, and the careers available to them in entrepreneurship.

Before the conference, Clarkston DECA members worked with the 4th-grade students and helped them design their businesses to open hypothetically. The 4th-grade students worked with partners or alone and were assisted by teachers, parents, and DECA chapter members. Ember Dugger, Jesse Delane, and Kamryn Forsmann are the coordinators of this project.

Selected business plans students have created will be awarded titles such as Best in Pets, Best in Hospitality, Best in Service, etc. All students will receive a certificate for completing a business project, and students with awarded business plans will receive a medal. At the conference, 4th-grade students and DECA members will attend four business workshops hosted by local entrepreneurs: Jim and Darcy Nelly with Nelly Broadcasting, Holly Williams with The Tin Can Co., Wendy Ostermiller with Fur Family Cinemas, and Brian McKarcher with Living Waters.
