College of Idaho Takes a Pair from LC State Baseball

LC State Alisha Alexander | Assistant Athletic Director-Sports Information

CALDWELL, Idaho – Three weeks of no play due to weather showed for LC State on Saturday. The Warriors dropped both halves of the non-conference doubleheader on the road against College of Idaho by finals of 5-4 and 14-5.

The losses move the LC State record to 4-3 ahead of Sunday’s series finale in Caldwell.

GAME ONE: College of Idaho def. No. 3 LC State 5-4

Just as on game one of the series, C of I struck first. The Yotes took a 2-0 lead through the first four innings until timely hits put LC State on the board.

The Warriors took control with a four-run fifth inning. An error put Jake Gish on second in the top of the fifth and Jack Sheward drove in the run with an RBI-single. The Warrior bats went to work with four straight singles by Ike George, Brandon Cabrera, Carter Booth and Nick Seamons to give LC a 4-2 advantage.

Jace Hanson sat down the first Yote of the bottom of the fifth with a strikeout before a throw from Booth in center cut down the next batter trying to stretch a single to a double. Hanson tallied another punchout to end the frame. Jake Green took over on the mound in the sixth and worked a 1-2-3 inning.

A fielder’s choice and hit-by-pitch put a pair of Yotes on in the seventh before Alex McFarland put C of I up 5-4 with a three-run home run. Eli Takalo sat the Yotes down in order in the eighth, but the Warriors were shut out in the ninth.

Seamons led the Warriors with two hits in the contest. Hanson struck out seven in his five innings.

GAME TWO: College of Idaho def No. 3 LC State 14-5

It was all College of Idaho in game two as the Yotes surged for an 8-0 after four innings. The Warrior defense struggled with five errors to allow four unearned runs.

Cabrera put the first LC run of the contest on the board with a solo shot in the sixth inning.

Tucker Grote settled in during his relief appearance and held C of I off the board. LC State added a run in the eighth. Cabrera singled and scored on a double by Gish. Evan Overmars singled to plate Gish. Pu’ukani De Sa doubled to keep the offense going and Noah Weintraub cut the deficit to 8-5 with a two-run double.

College of Idaho utilized free passes to add on in the eighth. The Yotes erased the progress LC State made with six runs en route to the 14-5 victory.

Cabrera and Weintraub each had two hits in the contest and Weintraub drove in two runs.
