Employment Scam Targeting University Students

PULLMAN – The Washington State University Police department warns students of a fraudulent employment scam targeting university students that has been becoming increasingly prevalent nationwide.

As part of this fraudulent employment scheme, the suspects pose as university professors, contact college students via email, and advertise fake job opportunities. The scam often involves asking the students to deposit fake bank checks into their bank accounts and then transferring the money to the suspects via payment apps and gift cards.
