August 12, 2024

(KAMIAH, ID) – On Friday, August 10, at approximately 9:00 p.m. PDT, a U.S. Forest Service firefighter was struck by a tree while engaged in initial attack operations on a new wildfire start on the Salmon River Ranger District. The firefighter was initially transported via Life Flight to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Idaho, and then to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured firefighter, as well as their affected family, friends, and co-workers. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests’ leadership asks for patience and understanding during this difficult time.

More information on the condition of the firefighter will be released as it becomes available.

Please direct any questions/inquiries regarding this incident to James Wimer at 208-451-4654.
