Free Screening of First Responders Training Video

June 14, 2024

(LEWISTON, ID) – A free screening is open to the public for a training video for first responders to learn techniques for working with the blind or visually impaired at the Lewiston City Library on June 18th. The training video was filmed with the cooperation of the Lewiston City Police, Pullman Fire Department and Pullman Police Department. Actors in the video are blind or visually impaired.

“First responders encounter a wide variety of emergency situations,” said Mark Leeper, Executive Director of DAC NW. “Naturally, protecting and saving lives is of upmost importance. And being familiar with how to interact with persons with disabilities can help maximize the safety of all persons present.” The video will be distributed to first responders in Washington State and Idaho.

The training video was developed from an hour-long course created by Caleb Hyndmen of Lewiston, Idaho Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Courageous Kids Climbing.  Screening starts at 2:30 on June 18th at the Lewiston City Library events room. Free refreshments will be served.
