Historic Inaugural Dance Campaign Concludes at Home

3/5/2024 | Alisha Alexander | Assistant Athletics Director-Sports Information
LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State Dance concluded its inaugural season with a virtual dual against Hope International (Calif.). The Royals won the contest 69-54.6, but history was made for the Warriors regardless of the outcome. LC State hosted its first competitive dance event in the P1FCU Activity Center, and Warrior Dance performed in front of a crowd of supporters to end the 2024 campaign.

“I am grateful for the athletics administration, athletic trainers, faculty, students and community members who joined us in the P1FCU Activity Center for our first virtual competition,” coach Christa Davis said. “It really helped raise our team energy in an otherwise quiet gymnasium. We are humbled by the tremendous support while we establish the competitive dance program. The foundation is built and I’m excited to see it grow in the years to come.

“An individual, who has been by our side from the beginning said today that every time those young women say that ‘LC State’ out loud to start their program, it gives them a goosebump or three or four,” Davis added. “I couldn’t have said it better.”

Seniors Brooklynn Menti and Carely Melena performed for the final time as members of LC State Dance during the morning’s competition. Both have been with the team for four years as members of the club team. The Warriors return a large portion of the roster heading into next season.

“It was difficult to avoid being sentimental following our final competition in this history-making season for LC State Dance,” Davis said. “When I consider how much each and every athlete has grown, I’m extremely thankful for their diligence and grace.”

LC State danced on its home floor and Hope International followed with its performance on its floor with both routines watched by judges over livestreams. The Warriors saw their highest marks come in performance impression and choreography.

“The emphasis of practice the past couple weeks has been to focus on the things within our control and to remember why we love to dance,” Davis said. “Scoring can vary in an aesthetic sport, so it is important to focus on specific technical improvement. We performed a relatively clean piece today, with only a one-point deduction. We also garnered praise for our choreography and overall impression of the program.
