Idaho Animal Rescue Network and the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office Update on the Grate Dane Situation

LEWISTON – On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a possible hoarding incident off of Tammany Creek Road Lewiston Idaho, County of Nez Perce. The Sheriff’s Office was advised that there were at least 13 Great Dane dogs inside a garage.

When the Sheriff’s Office got to the residence they found that there were 10 Great Danes in the garage, 1 in the house, and 2 more in a kennel near the barn, All the dogs looked to be happy, jumping around and wanting to be petted. The living conditions were not good for the health of the dogs and the owner or caretaker of the dogs could not handle taking care of them. With the help of the Idaho Animal Rescue Network, the owner willingly signed the dogs over to the Rescue Network.

The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Idaho Animal Rescue Network and all the helpers who came out to help load these wonderful dogs up and take them to their new place, for 110w, Fur Family Cinemas. The Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank Fur Family Cinemas and the Lewiston Police Department for their help in this case.

“Volunteers spent the day rescuing 12 surrendered Great Danes from a residence in Lewiston. The 12 dogs are receiving veterinarian care from Riverview Vet clinic and spending the night at Fur Family Cinema,” said Idaho Animal Rescue Network Director Jenna Redheart. “We will be continuing to work alongside the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office to assist any remaining animals that might still be on the property.”

IARN stated on Facebook they are very fortunate to have so many amazing supporters. The dogs cannot have visitors but you can buy them a gift or treats in the pet boutique that can be given to them.

They want to thank Dr. Cherish from Riverview Animal Clinic for diving in on their veterinary care. There is A LOT of veterinary care these dogs need. Aside from basic care such as vaccines, spay/neuters, and flea/tick treatments, there are several dogs with icky eyes, open wounds, lacerations, ear infections, and more. Please, if you’d like to donate directly to their veterinary care you can call them at (509) 758-5022. Their account is under “Idaho Animal Rescue Network”.

IARN wants to thank Erb’s Ace Hardware and Fazzari’s for their generous donation of 5-gallon buckets. Big dogs need big water sources and they are good on buckets!

They also want to thank the rescues who have been reaching out and offering a placement for some of these dogs. With all of our local rescues being overwhelmed I was very worried about finding them places to land. It’s an amazing feeling to know that our rescue community reaches so far.

Lastly, they extend a thank you Great Dane Club of America, the many media outlets, and the many volunteers who worked in 109° heat today.

Tonight, these dogs are sleeping in a clean, cool environment with fresh water and full bellies. This is where the real work begins.
