LEWISTON – Ron McFarland, Idaho’s first Writer in Residence, will read some of his writings at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History, located at 415 Main St., on October 13 at 7 p.m. as part of the LC State Humanities Division’s Visiting Writer Series.
McFarland’s readings are free and open to the public.
In 1984, McFarland was named as the state’s first Writer in Residence, which represents the highest literary recognition in the state. Those who hold the position embody exceptional quality in their field. As part of appointment McFarland traveled throughout the state to conduct readings and talk about writing.
McFarland is a poet and a University of Idaho professor emeritus. He has published numerous books, written over 600 poems, edited many poetry and critical anthologies, contributed to more than 60 professional journals, and written more than 30 book reviews, 30 essays, and 50 short stories. McFarland has also served as a visiting scholar at various universities and has taught multiple writers’ workshops. His most recent book is “Professor McFarland in Reel Time: Poems and Prose of an Angler” (2020).
McFarland, who taught 17th century British literature, modern British/American literature and poetry at UI, helped establish the university’s highly regarded literary magazine, Fugue.
After his presentation, McFarland will have copies of his books available to purchase and sign.
