It’s Huckleberry Season in the Idaho Panhandle

As you go and pick the delicious fruit from bushes around the Idaho Panhandle, the National Forest Service reminds community members not to be alarmed by the sticky coating on huckleberry leaves and berries, or the small green aphids you may find crawling in your collection container.

Aphids often feed on the new growth of fir trees and the sticky “honeydew” they produce drops on the plants below.

Fun fact: Aphids are one of the few insects that can give live birth. Huckleberry
