(Kamiah, ID) Jon Word begins his duties as Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests Supervisor on January 13, 2025. Jon’s appointment follows Cheryl Probert’s retirement after a decade leading the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests and Molly Ryan and Heath Perrine’s capable work as acting Forest Supervisors in the second half of 2024. Regional Forester Leanne Marten stated: “The Northern Region is excited the Nez Perce/Clearwater National Forest, Tribes, Stakeholders and partners as Jon assumes his new assignment as the Forest Supervisor. Jon’s strong resource background and commitment to collaboration is a great fit. We look forward to Jon’s arrival; and his future success.”
Jon brings 25 years of experience in Natural Resource management to the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. He just completed a detail as the Deputy Director of Renewable Resources in the Rocky Mountain Region. Most recently, he served in the Forest Service’s Washington Office, Natural Resources Program with the Risk Reduction Solutions/Timber Transit Team addressing the transportation challenges of Hazardous Fuels. Prior to his move to the Washington Office, Jon was a Legislative Affairs specialist in the Southwestern Region and detailed to the Washington Office in Legislative Affairs as well. Jon has a diverse background with prior positions including Staff Officer, detail to the National Partnership Office, Timber, Enterprise, Fire, and Timber Industry.
Jon is excited to move to the area with his wife Chelsie, son Oliver (10) and daughter Evelyn (8). He is looking forward to building relationships and working with the Tribes, State, communities, and stakeholders of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. In his free time, he enjoys time outdoors with his family and loves cooking for family and friends.
