Kamiah Ambulance Damaged in Hit and Run Friday

KAMIAH – On Thursday, June 16, Kamiah Fire-Rescue was requested by an area hospital for a Paramedic-level transfer of a patient to Kootenai Hospital in Coeur d’Alene.

At 1251 AM, on Friday, June 17, while the patient was being transported, a vehicle and driver ran a stop sign and flashing red street light at the intersection of US 95/Walnut and Lincoln Way, and struck Medic 22 in the front area of the ambulance causing moderate damage to the front of the ambulance.

Said vehicle and driver fled the scene without making any personal contact with KFR personnel and Coeur d’Alene Police Department is currently attempting to locate the driver and that vehicle.

The vehicle appeared to look like a Subaru, bluish in color. There will be considerable damage on the vehicle’s passenger side and will be missing the passenger side mirror.

911 was called immediately by KFR personnel, but do the nature of the patient, CDA Police Department allowed KFR to continue immediately to the hospital to get the patient needed critical care.

The patient and KFR crew did not receive any injuries from the accident and all persons at the time of the crash were wearing their safety belts.
