WACO, Texas – Yelena Kim of LC State Women’s Tennis capped a stellar freshman season with Red River Athletic Conference Freshman of Year honors, as well as Second-Team All-RRAC accolades.

The native of Almaty, Kazakhstan, was voted the LCSPY Female Freshman of the Year at LC State’s annual student-athlete awards show after going 12-8 against a schedule filled with NCAA Division I opponents and top NAIA competition. She was the Warriors’ top singles player all season long.

“I am glad to see Yelena get the recognition,” Head Coach Kai Fong said. “Her 12-8 record at No. 1 singles amidst the high level of competition is commendable. Her game has improved since her arrival in August.”

Senior Alexis Maison was also recognized as a Champion of Character in the conference.

“Lexi is a model of sportsmanship throughout all avenues,” Fong said. “She is of strong character and everyone enjoys being around Lexi. We are going to miss her.”
