Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Begins Preparations for Holidays and Heroes

September 16, 2024

(Kootenai County, ID) – As summer draws to an end the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office will begin preparations for the annual Holidays and Heroes event set to take place at the beginning of December. Local police officers and firefighters will volunteer their time to bring joy to disadvantaged children, partnering with businesses, civic groups, and community members to brighten their Christmas.

While many will celebrate with their families, some face financial hardships that make it difficult to meet even basic needs. Holidays and Heroes aims to spread joy during this gift-giving season. To ensure another successful year of holiday cheer for hundreds of local children, cash and food donations are now being accepted by KCSO. The more donations received, the more children can be included on the shopping list. Thanks to the communities contributions last year the KCSO was able to bless 22 children and their families, however, they aim to surpass that number this year.

Officers, firefighters, and support staff will shop for gifts for these children and their families. Once shopping is complete, volunteers will wrap the presents and prepare large food baskets for the families. At the end of the day, officers and firefighters will deliver the gifts and food directly to the children’s homes.

The KCSO ‘Holidays and Heroes’ program is now accepting monetary donations and food items, which can be dropped off or sent to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office at 5500 N. Government Way, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.

Community members are encouraged to contribute food or cash donations at upcoming food drive events in Kootenai County, where police and fire departments will be participating. They also welcome good old fashioned volunteer work to join our crew of gift wrappers.
