LC State and M.E.N. will hold free singing workshop and concert on April 22

Lewiston, ID – The Lewis-Clark State College Concert Choir along with Male Ensemble Northwest (M.E.N.) will be holding a free workshop for junior high, high school and community singers at the college’s Silverthorne Theatre on April 22 at 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Following the workshop, M.E.N. will perform a concert at 4 p.m., which will include two pieces with participants from the workshop. The concert is free and open to the public.

M.E.N. was formed in Longview, Wash., and has been performing and giving workshops since 1982. Originally formed as a way to encourage more young tenors and basses to sing in choir, M.E.N. became a hit with Pacific Northwest choral programs. Each M.E.N. member is a professional conductor-teacher, composer, or vocal performer, and many are choral directors in K-12 schools, colleges, and universities throughout the northwest.

The workshop participants will perform two pieces during the concert that they worked on throughout the day as a mass choir. They also will perform in the official reveal of the new version of LC State’s alma mater, arranged by Dan Davison, a member of M.E.N. He created three arrangements, including an Acapella choral, a Fight Song, and a formal arrangement with piano accompaniment.

For the workshop, there will fun and intense learning about vocal technique, artistry, and vocal percussion. Each participant will receive a free T-shirt.

Registration is limited, with a few spots still available. To register, please contact Sarah Graham, associate professor of music at LC State, at [email protected]. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis so anyone interested is encouraged to register immediately. Registration will close once the workshop is full or by April 6.
