LEWISTON, Idaho – Warrior Volleyball was stellar from the service line and dominant in every aspect of the match on Friday to sweep Multnomah 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-19). LC State dealt 10 service aces and held the Lions to a .000 attack percentage for the ninth Cascade Conference win of the season.

The victory improves the LC State record to 12-10 overall and 9-8 in CCC play. Multnomah is now 2-19 on the season and 2-15 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Hannah Dotson was at the service line for the first nine Warrior points of the match. A block by Missy Mortensen and Anna Merrill got the 9-0 run started and kills by Esther Kailiponi, Juliauna Forgach Aguilar, Mortensen and Merrill fueled the rally. Dotson added an ace to the commanding lead. A run of four points with contributions from Forgach Aguilar and Gianna Anderson had the advantage at 17-4 before a rally by the Lions cut the difference to 17-11.

After another run by Multnomah at 19-14, LC State struck for five straight on an ace by Kailiponi, block by Mortensen and Merrill and kill by Merrill to pull ahead 24-14. A swing by Mortensen put the Warriors up 1-0 with a 25-15 set win.

LC State kicked the offense up a notch in the second frame. Back-to-back kills by Forgach Aguilar and Karissa Lindner had the early lead at 2-1 before a kill by Hallie Seaman kicked off an 8-1 rally. The run saw tallies from Lindner, Makenzie Stout Mortensen, Taylin Rowley and Katie Rainville to push the advantage to 11-5.

A kill by Mortensen launched a massive 11-point surge by the Warriors. Mortensen and Rowley each had three kills in the span, Mortensen was part of two blocks and Kailiponi served two aces. The lead sat at 22-8 after the stretch. Kills by Rowley and Forgach Aguilar were followed by an ace by Dotson to close the set 25-9.

The third frame was a back-and-forth battle until a six-point run put the Warriors up 19-14. Trailing 14-13, kills by Mortensen and Rowley, as well as an ace by Natany Felix Guimaraes, put LC State in control. A block by Rainville and Rowley started another run that featured an ace by Kailiponi, kill by Merrill and block by Merrill and Rainville to push the score to set point, 24-15. The Lions scored four in a row before a kill by Rowley ended the match 25-19.

STAT RECAP

Kailiponi tied a career-high with four service aces to lead LC State. The Warriors won the battle at the service line with 10 aces compared to one by the Lions. Forgach Aguilar led the match with 10 kills on a .310 attack percentage and LC State hit .213 as a team. Rowley tallied a career-best nine kills and Mortensen added eight at a .538 mark.

Felix Guimaraes tied the No. 5 mark in the LC State record for digs in a three-set match with 25. Stout collected nine and Abbey Neff had eight. Kailiponi had a match-high 17 assists and Neff added 12.

Mortensen was a force at the net with seven total blocks, tied for fifth in a three-set match at LC State. Merrill assisted on five. The Warriors held the Lions to a .000 attack percentage.

Jade Ilaoa led Multnomah with six kills and Zoe Schule had eight assists. Lauren Porter collected 16 digs.

UP NEXT

The Warriors wrap up the weekend on Saturday against Warner Pacific. The match is slated for 4 p.m. in the P1FCU Activity Center.
