LC State Basketball Earns Two CCC Athlete of the Week Honors

(Lewiston, ID) Both Lewis-Clark State College Basketball teams went 2-0 last week to each improve to 3-0 so far in their seasons. Senior Ellie Sander was a key part of the No. 24 Warrior women’s defensive efforts, while Alton Hamilton of No. 25 LC State Men’s Basketball was stellar on both sides of the ball. Sander was voted the Cascade Conference Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week while Hamilton was tabbed the CCC Men’s Offensive Player of the Week.

ELLIE SANDER – WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sander was a steals machine last week with 11 in two wins in Arizona. The senior averaged 5.5 steals per game with five against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and six against Park-Gilbert (Ariz.) to go with 2.5 rebounds. Eight of her steals directly led to 17 points. Offensively, she averaged 11.5 points per game and dished out seven assists between the two games. Sander scored 11 points with three assists and five steals against Embry-Riddle, then followed up with 12 points, four assists and six steals against Park-Gilbert. She shot .611 from the field with 11 made field goals.

This is Sander’s first weekly honor of the season and third of her career.

The Warrior women are back in Lewiston this weekend to host a non-conference tournament. LC State will take on No. 8 Carroll (Mont.) and NCAA Division III Puget Sound.

ALTON HAMILTON – MEN’S BASKETBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Hamilton powered No. 25 LC State to a pair of wins over the weekend with strong play on both sides of the ball. The sophomore averaged a double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds per game. Offensively, Hamilton exploded for a career-high 28 points in a tight battle with Dickinson State (N.D.) as part of a 28-point, 18-rebound double-double. His second double-double featured 22 points and 10 boards. Hamilton shot .517 from the floor between the two games and was 17-for-18 (.944) from the free throw line. Defensively, Hamilton grabbed 28 rebounds with nine offensive and 19 defensive. He collected a career-high 18 boards against DSU, the most by a Warrior since 2014, before adding 10 against Providence (Mont.) on Saturday.

This is Hamilton’s first weekly honor of the season and second of his career.

LC State is back on the road this weekend for the Comfort Inn Fall Classic in Butte, Mont. The Warriors will face Carroll (Mont.) and host No. 9 Montana Tech.
