(Lewiston, ID) After a busy crossover weekend, the Warrior women stood out among the rest of the Cascade Conference to earn a pair of Cascade Conference Athlete of the Week honors. Natany Felix Guimaraes was voted the Volleyball Defender of the Week, and Sitara Byrd earned the first Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week honor this season.
NATANY FELIX GUIMARAES – VOLLEYBALL DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Felix Guimaraes moved up to third in the CCC in digs per set (4.98) after averaging 6.29 per set over the weekend. The LC State libero helped the Warriors to a 3-1 victory over No. 23 College of Idaho on Saturday with a match-high 27 digs. The senior led both weekend matches in digs with 17 against No. 3 Eastern Oregon and dished out 12 assists in the two contests.
This is the first weekly honor of Felix Guimaraes’ career at LC State.
Warrior Volleyball wraps up the regular season this weekend with a pair of matches at home. LC State hosts Bushnell (Ore.) on Friday before closing things out with No. 8 Corban (Ore.) on Saturday. The Warriors will honor their seven seniors, including Felix Guimaraes, approximately 30 minutes before the 4 p.m. match on Saturday.
SITARA BYRD – WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Byrd was impressive in the first game of the season to help No. 24 LC State to a victory over Haskell Indian Nations (Kan.). The junior led the contest with 21 points and nine rebounds while shooting .643 from the floor and .600 from 3-point range. Byrd was 9-for-14 from the floor and 3-for-5 from 3-point range. Four of her six offensive rebounds resulted in LC State baskets.
This is the first weekly honor of the season for Byrd and second of her career. The junior earned the first award of the season last year as well.
The Warrior women are in Arizona this week for non-conference contests at Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Nov. 6 and Park-Gilbert (Ariz.) on Nov. 7.
