SPOKANE – Lewis-Clark State Track and Field opened competition at the Whitworth Invitational on Friday at The Podium. The Warriors had personal-bests in nearly every event, and Christian Bothwell competed in the first four events of the weekend’s heptathlon. The night was highlighted by an A standard in the men’s 4x800m relay.
“A good first day,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “Christian is almost 150 points ahead of where he was at during his first heptathlon this season, so a good second day will put him in a good spot. An A standard by the 4x800m relay is great to see, especially considering we’ve got guys who are fresh and ran this race by themselves after almost lapping the field twice. Jennah’s mark in the long jump is also encouraging as that will be impactful on her pentathlon scores. All-in-all a good first day and excited to see how things go tomorrow.”
THE MEN
The 4x800m relay team of Cooper Carlson, Carter Gordon, Conner May, and Griffen Parsells raced a time of 7:47.11 for an automatic-qualifying time for nationals. The time ranks 10th in the NAIA this season and is the second-fastest in school history.
Bothwell began his day with a personal-best time of 7.48 in the 60m dash before capping it with a PR of 1.86m in the high jump. The senior had the top mark in the shot put (11.72m) and was second in the long jump (6.43m). He currently sits second in the seven-event heptathlon with 2,669 points.
Both LC State throwers had PRs in the weight throw. Sam Weller hit a mark of 13.21m to finish 15th and Tanner Beltz-Childs placed 22nd with a distance of 12.24m.
THE WOMEN
Jennah Carpenter competed in the long jump and PRed with the second-best mark in program history. The junior placed second in the event with a mark of 5.42m.
Thrower Grace Osborne threw to a personal-best distance of 13.68m in the weight throw. She placed 10th overall in the field of 27.
Emberlynn Mack finished 19th in the pole vault after clearing a height of 2.67m.
