MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Warriors competed in wet and rainy conditions for the second day in a row, this time at the Linfield Twilight in McMinnville, Ore. LC State had national marks in three events and a strong number of persona-bests.
“Another day with challenging conditions that made for some difficult competition at times,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “Despite that, we had some good performances in a few different areas. Carter (Gordon) ran a good 400 in the open, and Sara (Hathaway) ran a good 400m hurdles to win that race. Also saw Haylee (Appleford) with a nice personal record in the shot put, plus we hit the qualifying mark in the women’s 4x800m relay.”
THE MEN
The men’s 4x100m relay squad of Jedidiah Barnaby, Jordan Castillo, Preston Cooper and London Kirk won the event with a time of 42.53. Kirk won the individual 400m with a provisional-standard time of 48.23. Carter Gordon ran the second fastest 400m ever by a Warrior to place fifth (49.84), Trenton Johnson ran a PR to finish 10th (50.76) and Preston Cooper was 13th (51.77).
Barnaby went on to place third in the 200m with a time of 22.38. Castillo was seventh (22.86) and Ike Hopper was 30th (23.94).
Lewiston’s Kobe Wessels was the top LC State finisher in the 1,500m with a career-best time of 3:56.00. He won the race with Griffen Parsells in second (3:58.48), Alexander Fry in sixth (4:12.28) and Brycen Brown in 12th (4:17.72).
Also in distance events, Cooper Carlson won the 800m with a time of 1:57.15. Conner May was 12th (1:59.62) and Tristin O’Brien placed 23rd (2:05.26). Clay Shumaker led the Warriors in the 5,000m run with a second-place finish (15:39.56). Conner Alexander was fourth (15:55.51) and both Luke Sellmann (9th, 16:31.25) and Jacob Adams (10th, 16:32.68) had PRs of nearly 30 seconds.
Ian Gardom placed fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.68. Tanner Beltz-Childs was 17th in the hammer throw (39.28m).
THE WOMEN
Sydnie Zywina continued to excel in the triple jump with an A standard to win the event on Saturday. She leapt a distance 11.73m.
The women’s 4x800m relay team hit the B standard to return to nationals. The combination of Geraldin Correa, Brooklyn Shell, Grace Tiegs and Aubree Williams clocked a time of 9:30.24 to finish second. Williams later placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:24.85.
The 4x400m relay team of Emily Collins, Madigan Kelly, Karissa Linder and Anika Grogan placed fourth with a time of 48.71. Collins placed third in the individual 400m with a time of 1:00.06.
Sara Hathaway won the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:05.33.
Abigail Gorton led a group of Warriors in the 1,500m with a fourth-place finish. She crossed the line in 5:15.51, Grace Dixon ran a PR of 5:17.42 to finish fifth and Grace McCormick was seventh (5:32.31). Gorton went on to place 21st in the 800m (2:44.12) and McCormick was 22nd (2:44.28).
Jennah Carpenter placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.58m and Karissa Lindner was seventh with a PR of 5.27m which ranks fifth at LC State. Emberlynn Mack finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 2.83m.
In throws, Grace Osborne was sixth in the discus (37.19m) and ninth in the hammer (40.38m), and Haylee Appleford was 19th (32.66m) in the discus and 19th in the hammer (34.87m). Kea Stieglitz finished fourth in the javelin (36.17m) and Gianna Anderson was 19th (29.01m).
Results were not available for the men’s or women’s shot put.
