NEW ORLEANS – The Warrior Track and Field program continued its academic excellence during the 2021-22 school year with both men’s and women’s teams being named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams. LC State had 15 student-athletes earn the status of USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes, with nine on the women’s side and six for the men.
“As always, I am proud of how well our student-athletes do in the classroom and in competition,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “The team recognition is one thing, and we are definitely proud, but the individual recognition is great considering that this is based on grades and also that you have to qualify for nationals, so exemplary performances in both areas.”
To be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark for either indoor or outdoor nationals.
Emily Adams led the Warrior women with her third overall honor, while Ashley Britt, Rylee Brown and Maja Plaznik each earned the award for the second time. First time honorees for the women include: Jennah Carpenter, Sara Hathaway, Madigan Kelly, Karlie Smith and Kea Stieglitz.
On the men’s side, the trio of Cole Olsen, Connor Turpin and Clayton VanDyke each garnered their third honor, while Brycen Brown, Carter Gordon and Conner May earned the award for the first time.
LC State’s men’s team earned a team GPA of 3.16, while the women attained a grade point average of 3.51.
In order to be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the eligibility certificate for indoor and/or outdoor track and field must be 3.0 or higher.
