NEW ORLEANS – Eighteen LC State Track and Field student-athletes earned the title of USTFCCCA All-Academic, announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday. Both Warrior programs earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team status as well. The LC men finished the year with a 3.39 grade point average and the women maintained a 3.45.
To be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic athlete, a student-athlete must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 and have achieved a national-qualifying mark for either the indoor or outdoor season. To be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a program must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
“We continue to be proud of the hard work both in and out of competition of our student-athletes,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “This is a very notable award as it is a combination of athletics, as you had to compete at national level at the national championships, and also perform at a high level in the classroom. My kids set the bar high for themselves and each other and it is great to see them clear it.”
The LC State women earned nine individual awards, led by senior Ashley Britt. Juniors Sara Hathaway, Brooklyn Shell and Kea Stieglitz took home the honor, as did sophomores Jennah Carpenter, Madigan Kelly and Sydnie Zywina. Emily Collins and Grace Tiegs capped their debut seasons with USTFCCCA honors as well.
Nine LC State men earned the accolade, led by senior Caleb Moore. Junior Brycen Brown and sophomores Carter Gordon, London Kirk and Conner May joined him on the list as did freshmen Jedidiah Barnaby, Jordan Castillo, Trenton Johnson and Kobe Wessels.
