Lion Roar Fire in Priest Lake Only Grows to 15 Acres Overnight

The Lion Roar Fire about 1.5 miles east of the Priest Lake state park started on Monday, August 8 around 4 p.m is about 15 acres and 0% contained.

The initial attack in logging slash combined with steep and rocky terrain is making containment difficult. Today, emergency crews plan to utilize heavy equipment to open up old roads to allow firefighters to engage the fire.  Continue to use aircraft to slow the spread of the fire.

There is moderate fire behavior.  Short uphill runs and isolated torching. The temperatures are in the mid-90s with a max RH of 16%

Lion Creek Road is currently closed for logging activities and will remain closed for fire suppression activities until further notice. Currently. there is no evacuations, but Bonner County Sheriff did initiate a READY alert for Priest Lake State Park-Lionhead Unit and residents of Sandpiper Shores.
