On May 4, 2022, the Idaho State Police noticed a vehicle parked alongside Highway 12 near the Canyon Creek Trailhead. After several days, they noticed the vehicle had not moved. ISP ran the license plate on May 10, 2022, and it returned to a rental company. After ISP did some investigation, they found out the person who rented the car was a suspect in a non-custodial parental abduction.
Thursday, Idaho County deputies, Idaho Fish and Game LEOs, and US Forest Service LEOs responded to search for the suspect and missing child. Idaho County deputies launched the drone to search the area.
A search of the Canyon Creek area led to the location and arrest of Addam Perry A. Daugherty, age 37, of La Grange, Georgia, on a felony warrant out of Georgia, for interstate interference with custody.
11-year-old missing person Gabriel A. Daugherty was also located with him. They were both checked out by medical personnel. Gabriel was taken to the hospital for observation and follow up care.
Mr. Daugherty was arrested and transported to the Idaho County Jail by the Idaho State Police, where he will await court proceedings for extradition back to Georgia.
Idaho County wishes to thank Idaho Fish and Game, the Idaho State Police, the US Forest Service and the Kooskia Ambulance for their cooperation and assistance.
