March 28, 2024 (Moscow, Idaho) — Mayor Bettge has announced that he intends to propose the appointment of Moscow Police Department Captain Anthony Dahlinger as the next City of Moscow Chief of Police following Chief James D. Fry’s recent retirement announcement. Mayor Bettge will make the appointment at the upcoming April 1st City Council meeting with the appointment to be effective on May 1st following Chief Fry’s retirement on April 30th. Under Moscow City Code, the office of Chief of Police is filled by appointment of the Mayor, with consent of the City Council.
Captain Dahlinger has been with the Moscow Police Department for over 12 years and has nearly 17 years of experience in law enforcement. Captain Dahlinger is a graduate of the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Crime and Justice Studies, holds numerous certifications and has attended a number of FBI Leadership Institute sessions, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, one of the premier law enforcement training programs in the world. Prior to joining the Moscow Police Department in 2011, Captain Dahlinger served as a Detention and Patrol Deputy with Latah County. During his service with the City of Moscow, Captain Dahlinger has held the ranks of Patrol Officer, Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, and his current rank of Captain and Public Information Officer for the Department. In addition to his service to the City of Moscow, Captain Dahlinger has also served on the Board of the Latah Recovery Center.
