Moyie Fire Quickly Contained on Sunday

BOUNDARY COUNTY – According to reports, as of 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening, August 21st, fire crews had manually constructed a control line around 100% of the Moyie Fire and surrounded it with hose line. At that time, crews were completing mop-up operations and remained on scene to monitor the area overnight.

The Moyie Fire burned about three acres up a steep slope from where it started near the bank of the Moyie River southeast of Moyie Springs, where it threatened the Idaho Forest Group lumber mill and nearby homes.

About 50 residences had been placed on alert for a potential evacuation earlier in the day, but the threat is now negligible. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Cooperating Agencies: Idaho Dept. of Lands, Boundary County Office of Emergency Management, Local firefighters from Moyie Springs, Curley Creek, and North Bench, Boundary County Sheriff’s Office.

Additional information on the Moyie Fire will be posted as it becomes available on the IDL webpage at
