Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests Plan Two Prescribed Burns Friday Morning

Two districts on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests are planning additional prescribed burning ignitions this morning before forecasted rain moves into the region this afternoon.

The Salmon River Ranger District will be burning at the Crown Royal timber sale area in the Florence Basin today, October 21. This project is designed to remove harvest-generated wildfire fuels in the area and prepare the area for re-planting in the spring.

On the Red River Ranger District, fire managers will return to the Muddy Moose prescribed burn project area near Mud Springs in the Newsome Creek drainage today, October 21. This prescribed burning will reduce hazardous wildfire fuel accumulations and prepare the project area for reforestation in the spring.

Prescribed burning projects help contribute to healthy, resilient ecosystems and wildfire protection for local communities. They can create necessary spaces for spring tree planting, reduce hazardous wildfire fuel accumulations in anticipation of the next fire season, and improve wildlife habitat in fire-adapted ecosystems.
